It's been a busy busy season at Teganzari. Xavier has learned soo much in the last month or so of showing in the Sims Kennel Club. He's been handling and training Wol Rigorously and all his efforts are starting to pay off. At the end of the Best Of Group A Year I show Xavier was excited to find out the dog he raised and trained and has shown is a champion. He swiftly went home with his new champion and told the kennel all about how it went.
His father couldn't have been prouder of him. The hugged and chatted about the whole show. Analyzed each dog in the show and talked about who would be big competition in the coming months, who was obviously green, and what dogs would plateau soon and what ones were obvious champions and well matched to their handlers. This was a major process after shows for Xavier. Just like an athlete rewatching his performances his father told him "you should always evaluate your competition. Discover what their strengths and weaknesses are. You might learn a thing or two." His father was right. He knew this, he knew that, even though a dog show is a solo competition in a ring of individuals...what you do may make or break your abilities of winning.
His father taught him that a good handler works with his partner and vice versa and that they appear as one unit in the ring. He knew presentation of himself and of his dog was keep. He learned early one what leads to use, what colors to wear and what to avoid to give Wol his best chance in the ring. After studying was over his father sent him out to the kennels to care for Wol.
Teganzari is a small kennel with no more than 6 runs and atm Wol was the only dog in the kennel. As he walked over to Wol's run something caught his eye. He turned to look and saw....another dog...and it wasn't Wol. It was a 12" Blue and Tan saddled Lakeland terrier. Who had not noticed Xavier's attention. He was busy beating the stuffing out of a toy. This confused Xavier as he wasn't sure where his father had acquired such a dog. His father knew small dogs and Xavier...rarely were compatible...and especially terriers. Xavier than heard footfalls from down the hall. He turned to see a large man walking towards him. Xavier had never seen this guy before. He turned to face the person walking towards him.
The man stopped in front of Xavier and looked him up and down once and smirked. "you must be Xavier. I've heard a lot about you from your father." He than offered to shake Xavier's hand. Xavier accepted and the hand shake was very firm and masculine. The man than introduced himself as Roscoe Cromwell from Wales, England and that "Keep" or Keeper as he's often referred to was his dog and that he was transferring from Wales to the U.S. to introduce Keeper to the Lakeland community of the U.S.
"there's not much of a genetic pool here in the U.S. so I was approached to bring my dog here in hopes of strengthening the genetic bloodlines." said Cromwell in his very upper middle class welsh accent. Xavier could tell he was very eloquent. Xavier than introduced him to Wol who had started making a ruckus and they chatted while each cared for their dogs in opposing runs.
The following day both Roscoe and Xavier went to a photoshoot with their dogs. Xavier knew of this shoot since Wol was a new champion and it was customary to take some pleasing photos of him for stud ads in the future. And to add to his Kennel book for visitors.
After the photoshoot on the beach was done Xavier was about to put Wol back in his traveling crate when his father stopped him and told him that there was another photoshoot planned. Xavier looked at his father with a rather perplexed look. His father just grinned and told him
"Now that Wol has a title in the Sims Kennel Club he's been registered over at the Sims United Kennel Club and will be a part of our international show team. and You will be handling him at both sets of shows. Get ready for a strenous schedule of showing and traveling...but first! he needs to be in the puppy team photo so take him to area B"
Xavier was very excited about this and rather apprehensive...the SUKC is known for it's hectic showing schedule and competitive rings. But he felt confident in their abilities. The puppy team was stunning. A German Shepherd, pomeranian, American Bully, Roscoe's Lakeland and 2 French Bulldogs rounded out the team. Xavier had to muffle a laugh as he watched the photographer try to get a group of puppies to sit still and look at the camera....after several attempts he finally got the shot he wanted.
